PORTRAIT

Eugenio Recuenco was born in 1970 in Madrid. A true staging monster, it invites an adventurous spectator to discover a mysterious world with futuristic and dreamlike settings. Influenced by the great masters of classical Spanish painting such as Goya, El Greco and Zurbarán, Eugenio also transfigures the cinema repertoire with films by Kubrick, and even legends and fairy tales. He made a name for himself in particular through his advertising films for Loewe, Chivas and Nina Ricci, which brought him numerous prizes and worldwide recognition. In 2005, his photo for the Playstation received a Golden Lion at Cannes. In 2007, he collaborated with the prestigious Lavazza calendar by staging a hallucinated Don Quixote. Eugenio Recuenco is considered one of the most creative photographers in Spain, if not in the world, and this title is not usurped.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

- Is your approach to fashion photography the same as that of your more personal work?
Absolutely. Even if a photo has a commercial character, I want to feel a concept behind it that I could then develop, and use my creativity to the maximum.

- What did you buy with your first big check?
The freedom to no longer do any work!

- So you are more of a creator?
I love photography, of course, but I come from the world of painting. Ultimately the most important thing for me is to create images. I have also done artistic direction for opera, films, and architecture is a subject that interests me a lot.

- Your passions ?
Doing things, creating, and at the end of the day, having a concrete idea of what I managed to do and build. It is very important for me to be able to see and feel what I am shaping. Creativity and abstraction are quite complicated for me, even if the concept and the ideas are very important in my photos, even almost essential. But an abstract idea must be seen in a single moment and not as a material thing, however aesthetic it may be.

- God created the universe, and you, what would you have created?
Wife.
